Thanks for all the suggestions. The steel splinters in question are between
1/32 and 1/64 inch in length, and 1 to 2 thousands of inch in diameter, so
they are irritating rather than anything else.
Carl comments about the length of time Jon has been building - I 'started'
this linear conceptually about 15 years ago!
