Hi Carol,
If the transformer is getting hot, and I mean so hot that it cannot be touched,
then it could be a shorted turn on one of the windings - bad news as it means
the transformer is effectively u/s.
If the transformer runs at its normal temperature, then it is probably just a
loose lamination - not usually a problem, just annoying.

Subject: [Amps] Buzzing transformer
Hello all....
This past weekend I ran into a new problem in the CQWW-RTTY contest. For
some reason, the power transformer in my Alpha 76PA started buzzing big time
everytime it was keyed.. The transformer is solidly in the amp so that's not
a problem. Early on, I asked a friend of mine in DL land if my signal was
clean and he responded YES !!! Then Saturday evening I received a report
that my signal had a buzz on it. Same problem on CW. I could understand a
bad tone if the electrolytics were bad, but I am not sure. HV is good, no
major drop when amp is keyed, and everything tunes up as usual. Anyone have
an idea where to start troubleshooing the amp? Has anyone else had this
problem?
Carol
