"after a many dollars, you have half an S unit. Run it the way it was
designed"

Actually, less than 1/2 an S unit. S-units are sometimes calibrated at 6
db. I recall the definition of a db was the minimum level that a person can
distinguish a change in volume level.

The standard L4-B has 1200 watts. A supercharged L4-B would have 1500 watts
output. That is an increase of .969 db - about 1 db, which would be barely
detectable by someone at the other end.

It is not just a case of changing the transformer - it is a case of beefing
up a number of elements, including cooling. Assuming 60% efficiency, to get
300 more watts output, you would need 500 watts more input and have 200
watts more heat. In the end, it would not be much more difficult to build
an amp from scratch.

Or, you could get an antenna optimizer and get 1 db improvement out of you
antenna, or change from the old surplus RG-58 to hardline, improve your
radial system, improve your cw sending - or better yet, timing as to when to
transmit.
