Subject: COLLINS 30S-1 EXACT RELAY REPLACEMENTS
To: amps@contesting.com
I have once again located three very rare brand new Collins relays (K201, K202
& K203) from a big relay manufacturer for the Collins 30S-1 amplifier. The K201
START START relay (Collins number 970-1921-000) is a 110 volts DC, 20 amp
contacts and a 10,000 ohm coil. The K201 is an exact direct physical
replacement and includes a new mounting bracket. The K201 is the only relay
available anywhere and a spare should be put in your back up parts collection.
A second relay, the K202 found is an EXACT replacement for the Amperite 180
second delay. In addition, the K202 is manufactured from a large relay company
(not home brew in a garage) and provides a circuit that will turn on your panel
lites when 180 seconds are reached. The K202 is a THERMAL BI-METRIC device same
as the original unit that came with your 30S-1 when it was manufactured. The
relay is an exact plug in device, does away with HOT SWITCHING and costs less
than half the price of an Amperite relay assuming you can locate one somewhere.
The last relay found is the K203 CONTROL RELAY (970-1937-000). The unit is an
exact replacement with 12 volts DC, 50 ohm coil, 6 and 15 amp contacts. The
relay was designed in the 1950s, stacked design and has probably fallen a part
over the years. There is nothing else out there and this relay like the K201
Step Start will keep your amplifier running for years.
It is important to note that with either the K201 or K203 nothing is changed
internally and no modification what-so-ever is done to change the original look
or wiring of the Collins 30S-1 amplifier (when utilizing the K202 thermal
relay, one wire has to be installed to indicate the panel lites at 180 seconds).
