Good old Richardson...a pox on them! (General discussion, unrelated to
3-500Zs...)

According to the Richardson Electronics Data Sheet for the Amperex 3-500Z,
with the heavy graphite anode with the zirconium coating, the amplification
factor for the tube is 130 average. Richardson acquired Philips Electronics
transmitting tubes in 1988 and continues to manufacture these tubes.

Now, Varian Eimac published their 3-500Z spec sheet for their tube on March
15, 1968. At that time the amplification factor was given as 160 average.

Later, after various changes, Varian issued revisions to this sheet in 1970,
1973, 1977, 1979, and in the revision dated August 5, 1980, stated the
amplification factor to be 130 average.

I can only suspicion that the Chinese tubes are close to the 1968 design
from Varian Eimac.

If you wish copies of the original sheets, please advise me. I could make
them available on my website.

73 and Happy DXing,

Mike
