Undoubtedly, Ian, you have a point - this is why there was Frequentite,
Isolantite, Stupakoff, to name but a few. There were a number of special
ceramics developed for HF use, and some 'half and half' materials such as
Micanite, which was a sort of cement heavily loaded with Mica: it could be
machined with care.
Still, that article was probably the best one that there has been in RadCom for
quite a while!
