Hi Phil,
No difference in driving the tube and power output.
Eimac rates them both the same.
Perhaps, (read MAYBE) the D7 can be cooled slightly better since it has a
larger anode cooling ring of fins.
Unless you run continuous duty at maximum power out (2500w), I wouldn't
waste the time or effort.
My 3K Premier uses a 1987 date code tube (3CX1200A7) and I'm on the air all
the time. 100 watts still gives about 2000 out.
