Hi folks,
One of my coworkers (K8QM) purchased an Alpha 76 a year or so ago. It's been
a great amp, and he likes it a lot. In doing some reading in the manual he
came to the conclusion that the previous owner had added a third tube
socket, so last night he opened up the amp to have a look. Sure enough,
there is a third socket already wired up along with a parasitic supressor
waiting to be connected to the anode.
Would a third tube be a good idea? He's not as interested in more power as
he is in longer tube life, so the idea is that with three tubes he wouldn't
have to push 'em as hard to get rated output. He chases DX and plays in the
occasional contest, including RTTY contests.
He'd need a tube and a chimney. Anybody got one to sell? Svetlana sells new
ones for around $350 or so, anybody know what Svetlana 8874s are like?
Thanks & 73,
Doug, K4DSP
