Some time ago I happened to own a Swedish Radio marine transmitter running 2
x QB4/1100 tubes
where the filament voltage was lowered to approx. half in the stand by
position. So this approach seems
to have been used at the time this was manufactured (1979 )...

What about turning down the voltage, like to half for moderate standby
times (dinner). I remember
reading something in some broadcast book about the standby transmitter
filaments being switched to
half or less voltage as in semi-hot standby..
