I ordered one last week (P/N MOC5M35ES) for an Alpha PA-70A that was
manufactured in 1970 (S/N 002). The new cap is 35uF/5KV and fits inside the
70A, 70V, 77, 77D, 77Dx, and 77Sx. Price was $450. Yep, a helluva' lot
more than a string of Mil-Spec 'lytics and equalizing resistors. Looks like
it's the same cap for the 374 , but if not, they can manufacture it for
folks who want originality over cost/performance of top-grade 'lytics.
Electrolytic capacitors have a predicted life expectancy, oil filled
paper capacitors do not. I have serviced industrial equipment made in
1949 and the oil filled paper capacitors measured spot on and didn't
leak. (oil or electrons) (10 kV and above units)
I also dealt with many 4 uFd at 40 kV and a new one leaked oil at one
bushing, replaced in warranty, all others performed for 23 years before
the unit was replaced.
