The Thuderbolt was really designed for the old CW operators running class C.
Few had SSB when it came out. And under those conditions it did run the
legal limit of 1KW plate input.
I got one because my Elmer had one with a Ranger (no modulator tubes0) and
HQ170 and just wanted to set up that combination.
I also have a Desk KW that I need to get on the air someday while we still
have amateur radio. Or at least before they drop our max output to 5 watts
so that we will not be knocking out the BPL networks.
