Disagree.

I would never presume to offer contesing advice to AR....BUT...
leaving a frequency for a full minute...then reclaiming?

If I ask if the frequency is in use...then ask again....with still no
answer,
the frequency is mine.

Until, of course, some W1 decides otherwise and CQs on top of me.

On retrospect, perhaps K3ZO is right....NEVER ask QRL.  But, then,
again, being in W4, I will always lose a frequency  fight to a W1 during
European
runs.

And I think all knowledgeable  W1 contesters are aware of that fact.
