Hi Dave,

I won't be on this weekend, HOWEVER I have on occasion used prerecorded
letters to spell out callsigns and prerecorded SSB reports. Yeah, it sounds
funky.

The reason *I* have done it is to keep peace in the house. My shack is in a
bedroom between other bedrooms, so me screaming my lungs out saying "SS" at
2am

is really cool and all, but not really appreciated by those trying to sleep.
(and who aren't hams, so really don't "get it" anyways)

Other reasons (that come to mind) is perhaps someone that cannot speak for
whatever reason. (throat cancer, bad cold, primarily speaks another language
but knows enough to enter a English centric contest etc.)

I laugh at them too (to myself) but having tried it 2 or 3 times in the past
4 or 5 yrs, I totally understand.

I primarily do CW contests and the SSB ones I enter usually have to "end" at
~9pm local here.

Try to keep an open mind (everyone)
