Sorry, I don't buy it. I've been a ham for 42 years and only
been semi serious (can I be anything more than semi with 100
W and a multi band vertical?) contesting for 10 or 11 years.
I submitted my first log just to see my call in print (with
my pathetic score). Now I've never placed anywhere near a top
10, but the first time I got a certificate for 1st place low
power Phone in Michigan for the ARRL DX contest was such a rush
and had more effect in getting me to enter more contests and
submit more logs than an elctric cattle prod stuck where the
sun don't shine. Since then, I have occasionally been part of
some M/M's that have done well, (more due to the great operating
by my compatriots). How much more do we have to offer????
