The first MARCONI HF MEMORIAL CONTEST

Guys (and Gals)

The Question is raised about whether or not this is a good weekend to
have this contest. The real question that needs to be asked is does the
amateur radio contest community really need yet ANOTHER contest? Now we
all owe ole Marconi a debt of gratitude for helping invent amateur radio
maybe it would be more appropriate to rename one of the existing contests
in his honor....how about the "IARU Marconi Memorial Championships" in JULY?

Are you sure that you want to do this on this particular weekend!!!!

It is only the weekend of the single most popular event in the United
States. This is FIELD DAY WEEKEND!!!!!!

Maybe you want to eliminate the U.S. Competition....

Maybe since this is the 1st of an annual event, you would reconsider what
weekend you really want to use.

It is probably an oversight on someone's part by not looking at a CONTEST
CALENDAR..

We should all remember that it is hard to find a good weekend for ANY new
contest. If in doubt, check my contest calendar, and you will see that there
is, in average, 3.5 contests per weekend year round! Third and fourth
weekend in December is quite good, but I guess that is no coincidence!

So, I guess this rise a big controversy - on the one hand we (in someones
view) have too many contests, on the other hand we have to keep the
frequencies busy to be able to keep them. What will be the right strategy -
any suggestions?

This brings back humorous memories! In July of 94 or 93 I was part of a
DXpedition to FP on St Pierre. We put up a monster Battle Creek Special to
work 40, 80, and 160. We found that at night, the residence next to our
motel was experiencing some touch lamp rfi. HI HI With each transmission,
the lamp would cycle off and on. The resident hadn't a clue what was causing
it. We saw it happen and it didn't take long to figure out what was
happening. Wouldn't suprise me to find the resident suspected ghosts had
moved in. Never had a complaint, but we got a kick out of watching the lamp
cycle.... :')

Some things are just meant to be.

Hi and thanks for reading this. I am a member of the RSGB's HF Contest
Committee involved in the adjudication of HF Contests. For the past two
years we have been struggling with suitable software to help us adjudicate
the various HF Contests from logs received on disks usually as a .LOG file.

Is there any other software out there available to help us in this process.
If so, it can be purchased by the RSGB for restricted use of "listed
members of the adjudication Committee."

There must be some somewhere - please help!
