Before the contest, it's just a suggestion. During the contest it's
assistance. He's telling you where to look for mults/QSOs. How could
it NOT be assistance? Best to thank him, tell him you are operating
unassisted and ignore the info. You will then have a clear conscience.
There's nothing wrong with taking help from another party as long as
you put yourself in the correct category. "Unassisted" means just
that: You find 'em and work 'em all by yourself.
