I just HATE the not often used cut numbers.
5NN fine.
even like my zone T4, fine, I'll even stretch it a tiny bit if I hear O4
"O" as in the letter "O" three dashes.
I understand the reasoning, send less info, it takes less time, so can
make more contacts Right?
But when someone in the Pacific sends me 5NN "WA" or even worse "SNN"
My Brain has a stroke. does sending SNN instead of 5NN, does that
dropping of 2 dits save ya all that much?
Lets go back to the "31" vs "WA"
The dit is the basis of character timing. And at even the slow contest
speed of 24 wpm, a dit is about 50 milliseconds in duration,
"31" = 30 dits in length
"WA" = 17 dits in length
Difference 13 dits, times 50 ms each equals 650 ms. or a little over 1/2
a second. and this is at the turtle speed of 24 wpm. so it is more
likely somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 second saved.
Now I'm working someone and they send me the "WA" I can for sure tell
you that 1/2 second he thinks he saved, just stretched itself to 2 or 3
seconds because I have to try to figure out what numbers he actually means.
it is like me telling him that he is QSD
or if I'm having a hard time getting the exchange from him, and I send
to him, QSZ
NUTS!

And you could call cq as EIEDI, as it is known in advance that a call

The CQWW exchange is known in advance for many zones, including zone 15.
There was no need to ask for a repeat. You knew, from the callsign, that
the zone was 15. Sending a zone as AE is similar to sending a report as ENN
- and no one needs a repeat in those circumstances :-)
