Subject: FT-1000 Front-End PIN Diodes

Hi All,

I asked this question of the reflectors a couple of months back but
got no concrete answers. CQWW is now rapidly approaching so it's
getting critical!

We have an FT1000 which had some of its front-end PIN diodes smoked. Getting
the standard Japanese part is proving very difficult over here. The
rig currently has BA379s in - we haven't had time to do a measurement
of what effect that has on system performamce.

Can anyone shed any light on alternative PINs for the front-end (with
similar or better performance than the originals) which may be easier
to obtain over here.

73,

Andy Cook, G4PIQ.

Reminds me of when K7JA staged a photo for the Sweepstakes results with
him operating the contest from a swimming pool, with hand-mic in hand
and radio sitting on the edge of the pool. A zillion guys wrote the
ARRL complaining about the danger of electrocution, blah blah blah.

Not to discourage others from operating WAE, but I'm considering trying
WAE CW even if on and off. Seems I saw a complete set of rules on the
Internet somewhere. Would someone please send me (or post) a complete
set of rules? I'm a bit confused on QTCs, etc. Thanks.
