Looking over the final scores from last month's NAQP SSB, there are far
fewer stations in the WA4ZXA listing than I expected. Even more notable
is the scarcity of those in my region of the country. I live in Eastern PA.
I'm eager to see the final results in NCJ. My measly score may not be so
bad after all when compared to others in 2 and 3-land.
Only 9 of my 251 QSOs were fellow Pennsylvanians and 6 of those came when I
bumped into my good friend K3CT and we ran through all 6 bands! Only ONE
(yes ONE) QSO came from the contester-crammed state of NJ! I suspect the WX
had some effect on this, and also my low score. A brutal series of tstorms
hammered PA and NJ that day. I was chased off a great run at 2009z for 1.5
hours when a real killer tstorm blew through. When that passed, I resumed
until the next wave came along at 0044z. The storms kept nailing us
until beyond the end of the contest. The WX Channel radar maps were loaded
with yellows and reds all across PA, NJ, and surrounding areas.
I missed the best hours for the low bands as the skies lit up all evening.
I lost a lot of good QSOs and mults as the low bands are always productive
here for NAQP. I'm sure others here suffered and maybe didn't participate
at all because of the WX.
So ... if you were wondering where we all were, that's the story. At least
I can use it as an excuse, HI! We all gotta blame someone/something else
when we don't perform, right?
