It will be interesting to see what they get for signatures. Contesters tend to
be active and they also spend money. Two attributes that will make it very much
an uphill battle for the net to achieve it's goal of having some spectrum set
aside.
An event with participation levels as high as a major contest will be difficult
to beat.
I think it is going to come down to them either adapting and learning how to
co-exist with contests or eternal complaining.
There is no evidence that this 10 hour a day net on 14.300 is a good use of
spectrum. They're not the only ones or even the best ones to handle emergency
traffic.
However, contests are good for the hobby, they encourage people to put what
they have learned into practice and to spend money building better stations.
The contests are short lived and normally are restricted to a single mode and
they are not on all of the HF bands. They do inconvenience a few people but so
does this net.
