Question about SO2R with ONE FTdx-9000d (or MP)..... response:
SQ7D has posted his answer to using one FT-9000d (or MP) as a SO2R contest
radio along with amplifiers.
His link is quite complete.

I suggest anyone wanting to do this with no amplifiers, i.e., low power
entrant, it should be possible to use the 9000 selectable antenna sockets,
good bandpass filters, and the radio programming that lets op to send on one
radio antenna socket (one of any bands/antenna) WHILE receiving on one of the
other radio antenna sockets (there are total 4). This set up is covered in the
9000 Instruction Book which includes a caution for bandpass filters use. That
appears to me to be real SO2R with ONE radio.
It may/should be possible to use the SPE Expert 2K-FA and feed its 2 inputs
from the two active antenna sockets named above. At its most simple, this
amplifier will sense which of its two input sockets should be switched on-line
and sense which band and antenna socket fits that xmit input. The amplifier
will not care if the FT-9000d is the only source for both of its inputs because
the amp can select via RF input. The correct output socket is also
automatically selected for the band RF coming into the amp.
HOWEVER, with the amplifier, it should not be possible to HEAR one band while
transmitting on any band. A smarter man will have to look at the SPE Expert
manual to see if this amplifier's SO2R wiring built into it can do something
about the need to hear while transmitting.
I have always been puzzled why Yaesu's advertising has not stressed the SO2R
possibility using ONE radio, built into its 9000 line.
Please let me know further refinements or corrections on this subject. 73,
Charly
