On weekends lately I’ve been watching the Vikings and the Gophers play
football. The coaches don’t seem to value transparency very much. In fact,
they often pull some really sneaky and confusing moves as if they want to
confound their competitors.
I’ve also observed that those competitors whose moves are transparent, mostly
lose their games.

Subject: [CQ-Contest] Online scoreboard
Transparency in contesting has come a long way in the last 10 yrs, which is a
good thing. However, it's still a "competition" isn't it? We can exchange logs
and stories after the contest, but I'm not about to give my competition any
information (Score, QSO's, mults, what band I'm on, or if I'm taking off time)
that would motivate them to keep BIC. Fighting your inner demons is part of the
game. Perhaps the Scoreboards should limit viewing to only those participating.
Personally I get motivation from not knowing and wondering how my competition
is doing. THAT keeps the adrenaline level through the roof and keeps me pushing
the whole contest. If the sponsors ever made the Scoreboard mandatory, I would
probably submit checklogs and just compete for myself.
