I don't see it as a mistake.  DXpedition A works W9SG on CW but logs it as 
W9SZ.  W9SZ goes and looks at the complete logs, sees all the QSO info 
there and sends for a card which is issued by the DXpedition QSL manager. 
Now W9SG also sends a card and there's no way to verify who really got 
worked. (I use my call as an example but I would never do this). OR W9SZ 
sends a card and says the DXpedition really worked him. How is this to be 
sorted out?

Now, without the full QSO info published somewhere, I'd have to actually 
hear W9SG work them to be able to send a card with full QSO info. Possible 
but highly improbable.
