One change in the rules for the IARU HF Championship to highlight:
from http://www.arrl.org/contests/announcements/98/rules-iaru.html
"8. Multipliers: Total number of ITU zones plus IARU member-society HQ
stations and IARU officials worked on each frequency band, with
IARU officials representing a maximum of four multipliers
per band: AC, R1, R2 and R3. (Note: HQ stations and IARU
officials do not count for zone multipliers.) "
The new mults are IARU volunteers (officials). PA0LOU is one, for example.
Several other very active contesters and DXers are IARU officials, so you
may run in to more than a couple of them.
AC = IARU Administrative Council
R1 = IARU Region 1 official (Europe/Africa/western Asia)
R2 = IARU Region 2 official (North/South America)
R3 = IARU Region 3 official (Pacific/eastern Asia)
It looks like R1-R2-R3 could be confused with the "standard" way of signing
when maritime mobile (/R1 /R2 /R3 have been replacing /MM).
