NAQP CONTEST RESULTS 08/06,07
Participated a full 10 hours for this one. Kind of disappointed in
my score. I could not get a run going and did not do a very good job
with search and pounce.
Maybe I'll do better in SSB, but I like cw better.

My second try at this contest, and again it was great fun. I can
see I'll have to pay a lot more attention to multipliers in the
next one. Wish I had a nickel for every time I changed bands!
N2IC gets the award for best ears on 160. I called lots of 5s, 0s,
even a 6 but Steve was the only one west of W9 to copy me.

There are a few of you who may have been wondering what was going on.
KI7WX in Utah and K6XO/M in Idaho??? Evidently Mark did get on for a
while after I had encouraged him to do so. I was attending the WIMU
(Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Utah) hamfest in Idaho Falls, and during
lulls in the activities I went out to the truck and worked a few
stations who were alert enough to pull my weak signal out of the
noise. Apparently, K7QD also got on from Idaho. After a few contacts,
at occurred to me that I should have used a different name because
it turned out that I was sending AL ID, or if I was sloppy enough,
A LID... Yikes! Some of you were apparently expecting me to send UT
instead of ID too - I got some requests for repeats and some requests
for QSY to 15. Needless to say, I did not spend too much time operating,
but I was on for about an hour overall and made about 40 QSOs, mostly
on 20.
The WIMU hamfest is an annual event which has been going on for at
least 50 years, perhaps more than that. Hams from all over the western
U.S. and Canada are in attendance, and this year we even had a YB0 at
WIMU. Usually, each year the event is held at a different location,
somewhere in one of the four states mentioned. Next year it will be in
Jackson Wyoming and will be incorporated with the Rocky Mountain
Division ARRL convention. Wayne, N7NG, lives in Jackson, and he is
trying to get Martti, OH2BH, to be the keynote speaker. Not that this
has anything to do with contesting - just thought that I would throw in
a few more bytes of information about one of the fun things that we do
up here in this part of the country.
Our tentative plan is that Mark, KI7WX, will be at the helm of my
station in a couple of weeks and he will likely use his own call.
