These are VERY VALID points.
I agree it is VERY difficult to compete with cable and DSL in the
residential market. In my previous WISP background, we served businesses
only.
However- I think our industry as a whole will grow when someone can
successfully market sub $300 (and then sub $200) CPE devices.

Levinson.
One of the insights offered is "Find your Niche Market" In your situation,
this might equate to Don't bother trying to compete with Cable ISP's & ultra
cheap CPE... Go after the rural market where the Cable Company can't go.
Benefits to this are that one, the people you are offering service to in
rural areas will be genuinely grateful for the service and two, you won't
have to worry about CPE costs - if someone really wants the service, they
will get it regardless of the price.
