A lot of good comments have been put forth on this reflector about the SO2R
switchbox.
The rationale on connectors came from the observation from K9TM that he has
more important things to do in life than make cables. He wants to be able
to go to Radio Shack and buy what he needs. Between R/S and the consumer
electronics stores, the best selection of cable types usually involve 1/8
phono connectors.
One user asked why not 1/4" for the audio out, since headphones typically
have this connector? 1/4" stereo jacks *WHICH MOUNT ON A PC BOARD* are
less common than 1/8" types. I bought some parts from DigiKey while
working on the original board and in the next catalog they were
discontinued. We've since found another source. Connectors mounted on PC
boards can be unique between manufacturers. We're trying to pick parts
that builders will find widely available.
K8MR's suggestions are all useful, but many of these are not needed by the
majority of people. I've thought that adding the RS-232 computer interface
would be useful. A single MAX-232 IC will run two radios.
Keep up the ideas.
