Sorry, away over Thanksgiving here. Yes
it has been cleared up and was completely my
error since I had virtually not used Orion on
SSB before the CQ WW SSB! Here are settings
and their source:
Heil MIC SP TX BW Rolloff Source
HC-4 61 3-4 2700 150 W4PA
HC-5 35 3 2550 150 W6UB/W4NL
I was using MIC and SP both at ~8 and got one bad
unsolicited report. I then asked W0CP (a real audio
expert) and he confirmed I had a problem. Interestingly
enough, my audio was still "good enough" to work more
DX stations on 10 than any other USA including multi-multis!
I'm currently using the HC-4 at settings close to what
W4PA recommended above and get good communications quality
audio reports.
