Here is the current forecast discussion on space weather and geophysical activity, issued 2020 Jan 03 1230 UTC.

Solar Activity

24 hr Summary: Solar activity was very low this period. Newly numbered Region 2755 (S35E45, Bxo/beta) was stable and produced no notable flare activity. No Earth-directed CMEs were detected in available coronagraph imagery.

Forecast: Solar activity is expected to continue at very low levels on 03-05 Jan.

Energetic Particle

24 hr Summary: Both the greater than 2 MeV electron flux and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux were below event thresholds throughout the period.

Forecast: The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be at normal to moderate levels, while the greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to persist at background levels throughout the forecast period (03-05 Jan).

Solar Wind

24 hr Summary: Solar wind parameters, as measured by the ACE spacecraft, reflected enhancements from the arrival of a CIR ahead of a negative polarity CH HSS. Solar wind speeds peaked near 380 km/s. Total field increased to 10 nT, while the Bz component underwent various sustained southward deflections and reached a maximum deflection of -8 nT. Phi was mostly negative.

Forecast: Solar wind parameters are expected to remain slightly enhanced through 04 Jan. A return to nominal conditions is expected on 05 Jan.

Geospace

24 hr Summary: The geomagnetic field was mostly quiet, with an isolated unsettled period.

Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to continue at quiet to unsettled conditions for 03-04 Jan due to weak CH HSS influences. Quiet levels are expected on 05 Jan as background conditions return.
