Thanks to all of you for the advice and great info.
Frank makes an excellent point that made me realize my recent sudden power
outages and reboots all went very smooth unlike how old windoze used to
react back when I first purchased the APC UPS.
Some suggested getting the replacement battery from APC. It's on order.
The other suggestions (thanks Jim!) and discussions about the CyberPower
CP####PFCLCD have me considering that as a future replacement if the APC
battery replacement doesn't do the trick. Will avoid the cheaper AVRLCD
models. The 1500VA is more than double what is needed here. If the model
CP850PFCLCD is the same design, that should work if needed.
I don't expect a "short-term" UPS to do anything but give me enough time to
shut down smoothly if a power outage happens in the middle of using the
computer. Not looking for it to be RFI quiet in the short battery UPS mode.
Just quiet the rest of the time. But my APC is actually darn quiet even
when in back-up power mode. So it's worth keeping for a while more.
Thanks again guys for the suggestions and discussion.

Many of us use UPSs primarily to back up our computers, but the UPS function
isn't very important any more. Its still wise to have surge suppression in
your home
Developments in recent years that have made UPSs less important:
- very robust windows 10 power failure recovery
- no more electro-mechanical disks
- widespread use of laptop computers
I've had an unrecoverable Windows 10 power failure in well over five years.

Hi Hugo,
I have not evaluated them when the power is down and they are supplying
power to their loads. I have serious common mode chokes on their power
cables, as I do with all potential noise sources.
