Don't routers and such work at 2.4 GHz?  Microwave oven operate at 2.54 GHz, 
If you're shutting stuff down at a great distance, I'd be worried about 
radiation leaks.  If you don't have a microwave radiation tester, I'd play 
it safe and get another and see what happens then.
