For the past few weeks I have noticed a new noise source in the evenings.
It sounds to me like modem packet bursts. The noise is fairly wideband
and pulses (like a packet transmission) with additional "pops". This
goes on for several minutes then stops for awhile before it returns. The
"pops" sound like sharp little "tick" sounds reminiscent of some of the
"tick" sounds I thought I heard on the BPL video. Last night I walked
the neighborhood looking for the source but didn't find anything. I probably
need a better portable antenna. The noise seems to stop around 10 or 11
in the evening leading me to suspect someone has a wireless modem of some
kind that they stop using when they go to bed. I heard the noise quite
loud on 20 meters, but on lower bands it doesn't seem that much worse than
the usual noise level I have on 40/80. Any guesses as to what this
might be?
