Ferrites turn the wires into RF chokes, so they essentially eliminate
the connection of the shield to ground. That sounds more like a way to
render the the shield useless, not increase its effectiveness. It
makes more sense to connect the shield to the chassis at more points
and reduce the size of any openings.
