If you are looking at the scope on the RFI receiver,
with enough attenuation inserted, you probably wouldn't see the weaker 
"spikes" that were present before.

There should be enough attenuation "cranked in" so that the receiver
(actually any receiver) responds only to the strongest signals when
you're
at or near the noise source.
