Thanks Martin. The photo of the cable in this link shows unshielded
parallel wires. That's two parts of a recipe for disaster. ALL balanced
cables, and ALL unshielded cables should have a twisted pair for each
signal circuit.
It is also common for round cables that are expected to be shielded to
have poor shields. Some of these cables have no shield at all, only a
conductor to provide a DC path between the two ends.
Kostas -- if you still have that bad cable, perhaps you can cut it open
and learn what the cable is. Twisted pairs? Is there a shield? If so,
how is the shield constructed? Braid? Foil? Braid plus foil? How heavy
is the braid?
Also, try to measure with an Ohmmeter -- if there is a shield, to what
pin(s) is it connected? Study the link above to see what is expected to
be the pin wiring.
