Interesting notion to solve the problem, though I am guessing
the RFI experts here may want to look at why your ground wire
is getting RFI - both the sources and something about your
grounding system.
However, in theory, if the ground wire is functioning as an
antenna for airborne RF I seem to recall that grounding only
end of the coax shield may block those signals.
I look forward to the better-informed replies to come. I
love to learn about this stuff!

Does it ever make sense to shield a ground wire? Or is this a silly idea?
I'm thinking of trying running coax to my ground rod instead of copper
wire. The copper wire is picking up tons of RFI.
