Hey Chris,

This is excellent work and information! Thanks for doing it, and for posting it. I hope Ed Hare will pick up on it. He's in a position to go to the big box stores about it!

He may want your samples, or he may buy his own. If he doesn't want them, I strongly suggest that you take them back for a refund, telling them why.

Another thing for you to try -- get someone to switch the bulbs on and off while you listen in your ham rig.

Hello Group,

A quick post regarding my RFI experience with CFL bulbs.

I recently bought 3 brands of CFL bulbs at the local big-box DIY store for a
nightstand lamp.

I placed my SW portable on the nightstand (about 1.5 feet from bulb) and
listened on 454 KHz, 4, 7, 14, and 21 MHz for RFI.

I heard significant RFI from the Philips EnergySaver Silicone Coating 14w =60w
featuring TuffGuard protection, soft white, shatter resistant, 790 lumens, 2
pack.

I heard significant RFI from the Cree 4Flow, 60w, 2700K, soft white, dimmable,
815 lumens, single pack.

I heard nil RFI from the GE energy smart, Bright from the Start, 60w uses 15w,
800 lumens, soft white, 2 pack.

Thus, I recommend the GE energy smart, Bright from the Start CFL bulb for RFI
sensitive applications. As always, YMMV.

Hope this helps.
