I also suffered with an S38D until I saved up enough on summer jobs to 
buy a BC348. That was probably around soph year in HS. But I thought I'd 
died and gone to heaven when one of the local Techs who failed and 
failed and failed his CW test made a long term loan of an SX101 and 
DX100! I was W8FNI in those days.
