You are more likely to be receiving the signal from a reradiated source.
However, when tracking this down, you should also look for that re-radiated
signal to start your search. Use any band you wish. Remember the lower the
freq you use, the sooner you'll pick up the noise signal. Noise travels
further at lower frequency. Once the noise is detected, attenuate the signal
to the point of barely receiving it. When you can go up to the 2 meter freq
your with in a few poles of the source. Make your noise measurements using
AM, sitting beside the pole when using a vertical ant. Make your
measurements mid span (Between two poles) and from the opposite side of the
street from the lines when using a directional ant. Remember, always use as
much attenuation as possible. If you get noise at 2 poles, add more
attenuation. Now move between the next 2 poles. When you have to point to
the previous pole to hear the noise, that's your pole.
