Joe,
I strongly suggest refraining from using the word occupation in this respect
taking into consideration Polish history of WW2 and dramatically different
connotations the word invokes within our continent.

It depends on one's politics. However since the US, Germany and
other nations have recognized the independence declaration in the
former Yugoslav province of Kosovo, the proper name version is
Kosova. Use of the official name also serves to differentiate
between the status of occupation by Serbia and independence.
