Lotw updated and I dropped down one, now 329 with 333
worked/cfmed. If a country is deleted and you make
honor roll before deletion
does the ARRL take HR away from you when you lose one
that drops you below 329? So I still need one more.
Odd rule. I not worrying about working the next new
one on several bands just when it will come is the
question.
I was rag chewing with Thomas dk3cu who has 354 and
only needs Scarborough for 355. I guess 355 was the
highest number ever.

"deleted countries are no longer confirmable"
I know what you meant Bill but deleted countries are
still confirmable. They
are just not workable where they will count! HI
In January 2014, when I first started using ClubLog,
I uploaded my entire
log and it sent back a report showing one of my
contacts was logged with the
wrong entity. The contact was with VQ9HCS for a 15
meter SSB contact in
1974. ClubLog said the entity should be Aldabra. So I
started investigating
it and Aldabra had become a deleted country after I
made the contact. The
operator was SK but the QSL manager was not. I was
able to obtain a card!
I sent email to Bill Moore, NC1L, with the ARRL
Awards Branch, and replied
that it would count as Aldabra. Even though I haven't
had the card checked
yet, it should be good for Aldabra according to Bill.
My only question about deleting KH5K, is why can't
they delete Scarborough
Reef. That being a DXCC entity is a bunch of !@#$%^.

This is an old story, but perhaps it should be retold
from time to time. I
originally saw it in QST some years ago.
There is only one person in the history of DXCC who
has worked and confirmed
every DXCC country, including deleted ones, up until
the time of his death:
W1GKK. No one can ever accomplish it again because
deleted countries are no
longer confirmable. And the amazing thing is he did
it all on one band: 20
meters. In the roll of DXers, W1GKK stands alone.
He summed up his philosophy quite simply: Be there
when they're there.
History lesson for today.
