In my station, for RTTY contesting (and for eveything else) I run a
Yaesu FT-920. I checked the manual under Data operations and there is nothing in there that says to limit the output power for 100% duty cycle modes. In all the RTTY contests I have run in the past year abnd a half I have always run the max this radio can put out which is about 95 watts on RTTY. I can hear the fan running most of the time but I do not experience any excessive heating at all. I did notice when I had the covers off to install my INRAD filter boards and filters that this radio is almost half heat sink. There is quite a bit of metal connected to those final transistors. I will finally add that most of my RTTY contesting is 90% CQing and the rest S&P. 73 Thom WI8W
