I agree with K4WW that this one was more work and had slower rates than
some of the "bigger" RTTY contests. Although signals were weaker, there
was also a noticeable lack of activity, particularly from NA. Perhaps
Shelby hit it right that there are just too many RTTY contests, at least at
this time of the year.
10m was simply a disappointing bust! My 40m beam is down for repairs, but
40/80m are always a waste of time from VK in all but the "really big"
tests. Mother's Day commitments limited my participation to less than 11
hours and maybe that's another reason for the general fall off in
participation. The hours I was on would have usually produced a lot more
than 183 Q's. My highest peak run rate was only about 70 with 30-40 being
the norm. I did work the AP off the back of his antenna and also worked
several NA stations with strong signals on 20 LP over Europe. That's
always a kick!
Being a long way from the population centres of NA and EU I always enjoy
these contests where the scores are weighted for distance. Oh, BTW another
"distance" one, ANARTS, is coming up next month.
Its nice to be finally back into it again.....
