Hey, Tom:
Understood. Prior to my previous email I had not revisited the rules to
read the exact wording in the correct context. The email to which I respond
excluded part of the wording. Now, having re-read the entire rule, I see
the light (which is less than a 100 W bulb).
"6. Output Power: No greater than 100 W. Use of external amplifiers capable
of more than 100 W output is not allowed. QRP (5 W) entries will be
recognized in the results. Entries from stations choosing to use more than
100 W will be classified as check logs."
In every NAQP I've always operated transceivers with outputs "no greater
than 100 W" and my "external amplifiers capable of more than 100 W output"
remain OFF.
Therefore, an "Output Power: No greater than 100 W" is the essence of the
rule.
Thanks for all the Qs!

Subject: Re: [RTTY] Question about NAQP rules
Hi Ric
I would say that they not cheating if using a high power rig at 100 watts.
Same way for amps - they are not cheating if they have one and throttle it
back. If someone wants to game the system, they will do it regardless.
I don't understand the rule. What is the purpose of it? Why not just say
'100 watts maximum power' and leave it at that. I would love to be able to
turn my TS-450's down to about 15 or 20 watts and drive the amp to 100 and
let things loaf along.
How about a KX3 and KPA100? Is that legal?
The 100 watt limit is the best thing happening in contesting!! Wish they
were all that way :-) 73
