While contesting I use it in two main ways:
1. Finding an open spot in a crowded band.
2. Checking a band to see if there is any activity.
As you pointed out, it is mostly useful for S&P, not so much for
running.
And f course, it isn't limited to contesting. Want to see if six
meters is open? Look at the whole band at once. Nice.
