Radio contesting is and always will be between stations in the same
general area. Many contest committees recognize this by listing scores
by call area, section or state. A "national" winner is essentially
meaningless. Even in the rare instance where a US west coast station
wins a DX contest, it's most likely because the east coast had some
terrible weather. Or something.

Fun is synonymous with competition. Winning against equal competitors
is great; winning against a field of weaker ones is not.
