I think the signal report does serve a purpose in CW and SSB, but not in
RTTY.

In CW and SSB, hearing the tone and rhythm of the report helps prepare your
ear for what follows. This is especially important in CW.

In RTTY there is no such need at all. It's a complete waste of time.
