V22.01 2 December 2023
Why is this V22.01, and not V21.84?
Together with two other users, I have experienced obscure
conditions when, after quitting SD, Windows has held or locked
the .ALL file. Then, when SD is restarted, it does not "see",
or can not find, this default (most recent contest) .ALL file.
In effect, Windows has hidden it.
As such, SD thinks the user is starting an entirely new log,
even though it has the same Name as the most recent one, and
invites the user to select a fresh contest type. If the user
is not alert, and continues with the new contest option, the
original .ALL and .AUD files will be lost.
I can't control Windows, but I can work round this problem - as
follows. You are strongly recommended to replace whatever
version of SD you use with V22.01.
Quitting SD:
The only options now are END or QUIT or Alt-X in the Callsign
field on the logging line. This reliably closes all files, and
keeps the parameter file SD.INI up-to-date.
Now, each time you QUIT an individual log, SD maintains up to 3
generations of the .ALL file. These copies have the same name as
the log, but with the addition of .1, .2, or .3 as appropriate,
with .1 representing the most recent copy, and .3 the oldest.
They may be deleted after you've uploaded your Cabrillo log. As
with all insurance, this is wasted until you need it.
LINK Command:
The LINK command toggles rig control ON and OFF. When switching
from OFF to ON, rig control could become unreliable. Fixed.
Rig Control:
On return from keyboard mode to logging mode, the rig's frequency
is shown. Previously, it remained blank until the frequency was
changed.
Editing QSOs.
For contests in which SD identifies countries and call-areas by
referencing a .CTY file, the appropriate country name is displayed
as you navigate through earlier QSOs. This is a cosmetic feature.

SD is free from www.ei5di.com
When replacing an older version of SD, take care to "untick"
the box corresponding to "Create a desktop icon" during the
installation process. Otherwise you may have to resize SD's
window, and set other parameters as described in GETTING STARTED
on page 3 of the manual SD.PDF.
In any case, these parameters must be set if you are running
Windows 11 and SD's display does not look like this -

Before CW contests, check your Function Key memory playback
and edit the parameters as necessary - they are not updated
automatically for each contest.
Use Shift-F1, F2 as appropriate to edit the parameters.
If you find bugs in V22.01, report them to sd-user (at)

Please send your suggestions, comments, or questions to
sd-user (at) contesting.com - not to me directly.
