I don't usually gripe about other operators, but I feel I should set the
record straight on this one.
Sunday afternoon I was working 15M, running Europe. When the occasional
stateside station called, I would switch to my west fixed 3el yagi to
work the station. Periodically, I would turn the main antenna to the
west and call CQ. On one such occasion, V73RY called me (who I had
already worked), and politely asked that I QSY because I was splattering
on his frequency 2KHz away. I explained that I had been on this
frequency for several hours and as he was S9+30db that I was just
overloading his receiver. When asked what my signal strength was, he
admitted it was also very strong. At which point he went away. I
turned my antenna back to Europe and continued. A bit latter I turned
back to the west. Soon after V73RY responded by calling CQ on my
frequency! I politely asked him to QSY, which he ignored. I continued
my CQ and worked a number of stations. But now I had many stateside
stations asking me to QSY so they could work him. I was now in the
position of having explaining to them that he came on top of my
frequency. At which point, I got called all sorts of names. I decided
that discretion was the better part and went to 20M.
I invite your comments and suggestions on other ways I could handle this
situation in the future.
