This Week's Contests:
1. 80M QRP Fox Hunt. Thursday evening local, 0200-0330Z Friday.
3550-3570 kHz CW. Maximum power 5W. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power.
Work only the two foxes. The two foxes this week are K4BAI, John, in
GA and N0TU, Mike, KS.
2. NCCC NS Sprint Practice. Thursday evening local, 0230-0259Z Friday.
20, 40, 80, 160M CW. Maximum power 100W. This week a 5 kHz and a one
kHz QSY rule applies same as in the NA Sprints. Exchange: both calls,
#, name, SPC. There is also a slow speed NS 0200-0220Z with the same
rules except no 160M activity and maximum speed for first ten minutes is
18 WPM and 26 WPM maximum for the second ten minutes. Look for activity
around 040 kHz on 20, 40, and 80 and around 1815 kHz on 160M.
3. Zombie Shuffle QRP Sprint. Friday 5 PM to midnight your local time.
20, 40, 80M CW. 5W maximum power. Exchange: RST, SPC, Zombie # (or
telephone area code if you don't have a Zombie #), Name. You can work
the same station again on the same band after two hours. There is a
link on the webpage for applying for a Zombie #. I got mine in a very
short while. This Sprint is being held Friday night of this week this
year in order to coincide with the end of the Mayan Calendar, all in
good fun. Here is the URL for complete information including where to
send your log summary: http://www.zianet.com/qrp/ZOMBIE/zombie.htm
Since I got Zombie #986, I hope that means a lot of activity in this
sprint. Bonus points for working "Maya Kings," who will send "Maya
King" instead of "Name" in their exchange.
4. RAEM Contest. 0000 to 1159Z Sunday (begins Saturday night local
time). 80 - 10M CW. Exchange: Serial # beginning with 001 + Latitude
Degrees + Longitude Degrees. There is usually a lot of activity from
Europe, especially from Russia on 80 and 40 CW in this one. Special
memorial station "RAEM" will be QRV. If you don't know your longitude
and latitude, I think you can look up your call on QRZ.COM and find it
under "Details."
5. Straight Key Century Club Weekend Sprintathon. 1200Z Saturday to
2400Z Sunday (maximum of 24 hours). Note that this starts 12 hours
earlier than the WES events have usually started. Use a mechanical key.
160-10M CW. Exchange: RST + Name + SPC + SKCC# or "none." Look
around 1820, 3550, 7045, 7114, 14050, 21050, 21114, 28050, 28114 kHz.
I't not expect much activity around 21114 or 28114, but there will be
activity around 7114. Bonus points for working Tribunes and Centurians
and the club station or designated bonus station. Bonus points for using
a completely homemade key.
6. CWT Mini Tests next Wed (Dec 26 local date). Three separate one hour
Mini Tests. 1300Z, 1900Z, and 0300Z (Thurs Dec 27 UTC). 160-10M CW.
Exchange: Name + CWOps # or SPC. Look around 1810 kHz and 028 kHz. On
most bands, you will find activity from about 018 to about 033 kHz.
Hope everyone has a nice week and weekend and a great holiday season.
73, John, K4BAI.
